Granted, the title sentence of this article is probably not controversial as of this writing. I just wanted to get it out of the way before moving on to what really is my point about this case, and the cases that have preceeded it, and the uncountable cases that will exist in the future.
Put simply, I have come up with an idea. Call it "Lasher's First Law of Perversity" if you want, but here it is: Everybody is a pervert.
Yes, dear reader, you are a pervert. So am I. The time has come to accept this simple fact and move on.
There are some corrolaries to this law:
- Anyone who says they are not a pervert is a pervert and a liar.
- Anyone who believes they are not a pervert is a delusional pervert.
Don't get me wrong: There is still a need to keep our behaviours in check, just not the ones you may think. You see, my beef with Tony Weiner is not that he is a pervert. After all, who am I to judge? No, my beef with him is that he tried to cover it up.
He says he wasn't shtupping the girl he was trying to tweet his package to. Maybe he was, and maybe he wasn't. Unless she says something believable one way or the other, the truth will not be known, because Tony is a liar.
Now, at this time, I have some mixed feelings about why this all happened. He should go, because he is a liar, but if we weren't so bothered by people being the perverts that they are, he wouldn't have had this to lie about. I'm pretty sure we would have had to catch him lying about something else, but at its root, this is stupid.
That notwithstanding, the fact that he ultimately came clean about being a liar doesn't make him less of a liar; it makes him a liar who got caught lying. For that reason, he should make himself a liar again by stepping aside in exactly the same manner he has declared he will not be doing.
