Reopening

Welcome back.

Around a month ago, I decided to temporarily close my website for a much needed renovation. I'd been running the same blog software with the same style sheet since this time in 2007, and the site has been badly in need of an upgrade.

I've also been somewhat in need of a good coding project, and this new, improved site is it. Look at the article below ("Keep it Simple, Stupid!") to see what I had to say about the project halfway through.

Things you should notice about the improved site:

  • Clean, modern design
  • Very fast response
  • Less typos? (Well, one can hpoe, can't one :)
  • No advertisements.

That's right, I've done away with the ads. I've come to realize that they really aren't that lucrative, having earned me about five dollars in the past two years, and adverts in general, especially outsourced ones, are the worst offenders when it comes to reasons why a given website is slow.

Which brings me to another thing. I'd always thought that computers were supposed to be fast. We have, at present, the infrastructure to deliver astonishing amounts of digital bandwidth to our homes, quantities that would have been unfathomable fifteen years ago. With all that bandwidth, why is surfing so slow? I have decided it is inexcusable, and have determined to do something about it by setting a proper example.

I don't pretend to be influential. Even so, every time I get to say "my site is faster than yooooours is! Na na na na boooooo boo!" is a time that someone might just get annoyed enough to do something about it.

One can hpoe, can't one?
